Department News

More AED's - For every minute that a person in cardiac arrest goes without being successfully treated (by defibrillation), the chance of survival decreases by 10 percent.  Our department realizes the gravity of this statistic, and has purchased more defibrillators and placed them on front-line vehicles for a quick response.  Years ago, the only department AED was on the ambulance.  Then we added two more, one on the rescue 118 and one on the chief's vehicle.  In 2006, two more were purchased and placed on engines 112 and 115.    Since then, we have also put an AED in service on  squad 1117 when the part time staff started, to bring our total number of units to 5.  They have proven their worth many of times, and saved lives.   ~ Posted 11/09/09

Part Time Firefighters - In 2008, our department entered a new era and sought to maintain a quality of service to the community with nothing but excellence.  We have been faced with many challenges, including manpower and keeping up with new demands on training and record keeping.  As with the times, we decided to staff part time firefighters, and the feedback has been supportive.  We have welcomed our new members to the department and appreciate their help!  ~Posted 11/09/09

Want to learn more about us? Thinking of volunteering?  We conduct training drills weekly on Friday evenings at Station #1, 55 Ewer Avenue at 7:00pm.  We invite you to come on over at chat with us and see how exciting and rewarding being a volunteer firefighter or EMT can be.  You can sign up for firefighting training, or emergency medical training to work on the ambulance, or both!  It is your choice as to whether you want to join and just do one or the other.  We'll show you just how easy it is to volunteer if you just come on over!     ~ Posted 3/17/08

Free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors for district residents.  Periodic quantities have been made possible by Monroe County Fire Bureau.  To request these detectors, use the contact form and indicate how many devices you would need for your home and how we may get a hold of you.  We will record your info and notify you when we can fulfill your request.    ~ Posted 2/08/07

New Thermal Imaging Cameras: Innovations in firefighting equipment such as a thermal imaging camera give firefighters new information about the fire scene, helping them make accurate and timely decisions that can significantly influence the outcome of incidents.  A T3MAX camera, made by Bullard, was placed on Engine 115 at station 1 in the year 2006.  Realizing the value of the technology, and the desire to have it readily available, prompted the department to place another unit on Engine 112 at Station 2 in the year 2008.  ~Posted 11/09/09

Action Photos:  See what your fire department has been up to by checking out the photo gallery.  We don't always have the opportunity to capture the incident, but sometimes there's somebody nearby with a camera.  ~ Posted 3/25/06
