Emergency Medical Services     [Pictures]

In addition to fire protection, the department is dedicated to providing emergency medical care to our community.  We have a 2003 PL Custom, Gold Medallion E-450 ambulance ready to handle medical emergencies.  The rig was built to specification by Response 1® Emergency Vehicles.  It features central ducted climate control, a slide-out PCR work station, lower zone LED warning lights, and a rear LED Traffic Advisor lightbar.  Life-saving equipment on board includes a Philips Heartstart AED, a pulse oximeter, and radio equipment for communicating with hospital physicians.

The ambulance is staffed by volunteer firefighters who are emergency medical technicians and/or trained in basic first aid, CPR, and AED use.  Many members are also active firefighters, but it is not a requirement to join the ambulance.  The department offers free training for those interested in volunteering.  Many EMS courses and training is offered through Monroe County and local ambulance corps.  Our members participate in monthly drills to keep our skills up-to-date.

All of our members are volunteer and respond when available.  We staff the overnight shift (10pm - 5am) with duty squads to guarantee a response.  A squad consists of at least a driver and an EMT.  We have six squads that rotate daily coverage.  The ambulance is sometimes also staffed for special events taking place in Irondequoit.

We would really like to hear from you if you are interested in volunteering with us and reside in the district or close by!
